Plumbing Forums and how they are used across the internet
« on: February 22, 2010, 04:29:01 PM »

Back in October of 2002 when Dunbar Plumbing was created as a business, the internet, the ability to communicate "online" was unusual in a lot of ways but fast growing incredibly amongst people in the community. Given the fact that it is very difficult to start a business created out of thin air makes it very difficult to not be concerned in when the phone is going to ring.

With all this time on our hands we utilized the fact that our experience on the internet was non-existent along and the learning curve was staggering with how much there was to learn. Given our love for the profession of plumbing, it became second nature to join a plumbing forum and see what others were talking about in the trade.

Plumbing forums have become one of the best moves that have provided some great continuing education that teaches the principles from a different level altogether and finding out about product failures, codes across the country including other parts of the world prove interesting.

The mindset of a plumbing forum provides information to the best of one's ability to answer in helpful ways about how plumbing systems are created, maintained and the issues that come along the way.

A wide range of topics can be found in a plumbing forum. The correct answer might not always be the same however. The plumbing experts are sometimes hard to find just by the fact that some do not want to offer the knowledge of the trade, for which they feel they are robbing themselves of potential work down the road.

I'm not so quick to agree with these statements solely on the fact that we as people always, for the most part search for information on the internet. If a plumber so chooses to withhold plumbing information out of protection of the trade, I respect that fully.  I cannot recall how many times I've been to countless forums, not strictly plumbing forums and posted a question where numerous people took the time to answer questions to the best of their ability to help another. It is honorable. So far in my years, with continued steps to make sure the information given is correct. You do not know who is qualified and who is not on the other side of the computer screen and you must research the information given to assure the quality and correctness is there. Otherwise you can be at the mercy of a mistake that can cause issues for your problem or project.

Plumbing forums are unique and can sometimes grow into large communities of people who are members, whether they are there continuously or there just to get a brief answer or two resolved. The majority of plumbing forums which include forums non-related to the plumbing industry are mostly a "read only" for those who come to extract information to provide answers to their questions.

In the big equation of how people reach plumbing forums consist primarily of being found to begin with. First and foremost the number one way is content. Search engines crawl plumbing forums to extract content so it can be placed on your screen when you go to any search engine. If the subject matter you're looking for is relevant, such as typing in "plumbing forums" in trying to find one huge database of plumbing knowledge, this will yield a large return of information leading to forums that are on the internet titled in the manner of plumbing forum or plumbing forums.

Larger communities can have multiple topics with a forum topic dedicated to plumbing and act as a small plumbing forum with other related topics. Sometimes the topics discussed in a plumbing forum can enter into another subject matter not even related to plumbing. This happens when discussion about large projects expand into other trades that require resource information that helps communicate answers when one subject matter directly affects another.

Plumbing information and knowledge on the internet, is mostly free. There are forums dedicated to this subject matter and there are those that cover the basics to offer the ability of preventing the avid viewer from leaving, heading to another location on the internet to find what they are looking for. Members who participate on an ongoing basis have a tendency to be very resourceful in keeping content fresh and ongoing that will be obtained through search engines that grab this valuable information and link it back through search engine queries so that topics of interest are at the disposal of the person searching for the content.

Dunbar Plumbing Forums was created for the consumer with the internet at their disposal to find information to either

1. Help resolve their plumbing issue

2. Gain pertinent information before hiring a plumber to confirm the conversation between homeowner and contractor coordinates with a third party or "another source"

3. Find out if work done by a plumber was considered reasonable or correct "after" the experience

4. Plan for future plumbing tasks that either you or what your plumber intends to do

5. Attempt to task a simple plumbing repair or try to view pictures or video that will help relate to a particular plumbing situation in your home.

6. Help another individual in need of plumbing information that may or may not help, but at least allow a "link" to be sent to directly show information that provides the great utility of helping with a plumbing related issue.

In conclusion,

Plumbing forums, plumbing information is needed on the internet for a wide range of reasons to help those in critical decision making whether it involves doing it themselves or those they hire to do the work for them. It greatly provides insurance to some degree that helps consumerism flourish for those who pay another to do the task.
