Dunbar Plumbing was called out to a residence on Metcalf drive in edgewood kentucky last friday to install a whole house water filtration system by Aquasana. The model of the unit was RHINO EQ-300.

The property owner was wanting to provide a filtration system that offers the removal of chlorine from the water. Along with this feature, sediment and odor is removed as well.

When this unit was installed, a check of the incoming water pressure revealed a high water pressure which determined the pressure reducing valve already installed on the water main was defective and broken.

The timing was ideal to remove this defective valve and install a new one to protect the investment of the new whole house water filter system.

We made a point of installing isolation valves at each side of the water filter as well as the 1/4 turn drains to relieve pressure to change/maintain the filter system.

A bypass was installed as well in the case that the unit goes in disrepair or water is still needed in the structure to prevent interruption. Customer was very satisfied with this installation and believes the design of the piping system leading to this unit will make the operation and maintenance of this unit effortless.

Dunbar Plumbing  has installed this type of water filtration product before and this particular brand is becoming a popular product. Installation is relatively simple and requires the installation of a Licensed Plumber to keep the warranty intact, preventing incorrect installation.

Chlorine has become a growing problem in the Northern Kentucky community over the last 10 years given the base component of the water that comes from the Ohio and Licking river.

Water is pumped to the Fort Thomas Water Treatment Plant where numerous steps are taken to break down the composition of the water, removing dirt/debri/particulates/chemicals/oils and many other items that water can obtain.

Given the near drought conditions this year, the water and its composition was more of a task to "clean" in common terms. The end result of this equation elevated the levels of chlorine the water is batched with before leaving the water treatment plant.

I cannot stress enough to my customers the seriousness of chlorine exposure repeatedly over time. For the most part, most ignore this condition thinking that it is overblown.

For example, swimming. No one ever thinks of swimming as deadly from the aspect of chlorine as it is a dire necessity to have in these cases where public safety is priority one.

Chlorine in high concentrations is lethal to human beings. High concentrations over a period of time can prove to be dangerous to humans.

When taking hot showers, baths, hot tubs or jacuzzi type sitting baths, warm water is notorious for opening the pores of your skin, allowing anything in the water (namely chlorine) to enter the bloodstream of the body.

Cold water doesn't have the same available transfer method as much as warm water delivers to the body.

Our clientell at Dunbar Plumbing has an interesting crosscut of customers that have asked for this protection by installing high end water filtration to protect from these raised levels of chlorine:

Most were from "other" states in the United States. They found that the chlorine levels here in Northern Kentucky were significantly higher, and the quick notice of skin irritations or mild rashes were key indicators of such issue.

Another group of customers were those that were born/raised from another country, and came to the United States to work or be with family. This group of people were the most concerned, stating that where they came from did not have chlorine as a disinfectant in the water that was so prominent.

The statements made by this customer base alone brought attention to what we was already aware of, knowing the toxicity levels of chlorine are raised in the Northern Kentucky area.

People in the medical field have taken notice of this pressing issue as well. The picture above was an installation for two doctors in the community, concerned about the years of prior exposure they had to chlorination in the water system. All we ask of our customers who do not believe these statements is to research what is typed, reference to the chlorine levels present in your water and make the best decision possible to protect your best interest.
