Mansfield toilet cont. ...

Inside the tank was a blue chlorine tablet that had deteriorated all the rubber components. We asked, "Has this toilet had a habit of clogging regularly?" and with that statement came the answer of yes, and I explained the cost consideration of rebuilding  the internals of the toilet with the idea of installing a "new" toilet.

I mentioned the American Standard Champion 4 Toilet, how well it flushed, then took the customer to youtube to view the actual flushing of the toilet I was recommending. The customer instantly decided that replacement was a better idea than spending money on a toilet that was prone to clogging.

We are scheduled to come back wednesday afternoon to replace the toilet with a new one.

Also replaced a pressure balanced cartridge for a single handle delta monitor series faucet  in the basement that was actually reversed hot/cold when operating. Upon inspection of the cartridge we replaced the entire cartridge due to some visible wear on the glide plate. The new cartridge resolved the issue with proper cold to hot, matching design to faucet markings.

We replaced two toilets for the customer above, as they had called back and stated that one of the toilets upstairs had the same issues of clogging as well. Both toilet replacements went longer than usual but there were some surprises along the way. Video/pictures will soon be added when we get the chance. We're doing a gas line repair later today that has old blade-type valves that need to be removed and 1/4 turn valves put in their place.

Started out with a water heater installation that proved to be a situation that unfolded into a gas to electric conversion. I literally should be :bedtime2: right now but I have to be working around the clock to get things accomplished.

An old style piping design had issue with being partially/fully restricted not allowing the existing or the new water heater to vent properly.

After we left that job with intentions of coming back the next day, we left and replaced/installed a new thermal expansion tank at a self storage unit in Independence Kentucky.

We had checked this thermal expansion tank a few weeks prior and determined the tank bladder failed, and it was not serving any purpose other than an ornament on the plumbing system. What prompted this replacement was the fact that this water heater was inside a room full of electronics and an area where lots of damage could occur if a spraying leak could occur.

Those statements alone was the attitude that convinced not to wait till the bad happens. Good move.  :sign0098:

1st call was for a clogged drain line that started off as a laundry tub backup a few days ago. Turns out it is a main drain backup that is root bound.

Along with that, there's an outside drain that the customer put decorative rocks in the opening around this drain that now has rocks jammed down inside this 1.5" trap which is going to be a PITA to get the rocks out. We attempted to remove the rocks today with a shop vac and for some reason, pulled out a ton of water from the drain.

This has us concerned as we don't know why this line would be full. This was "after" we cleared the main line so there lies the bigger issue. I explained to the customer that I was uneasy about the condition of her drainage system. Two undersized piping configurations is not good for when the time comes to clear a drain, and the main cleanout cap is concealed. Removing the toilet in a tucked away bathroom is not an option when a cut into the carpet is the more reasonable method for "proper" cleaning of a main sewer line. Running through a floor drain greatly limits the size and effectiveness of a cable.

Second call was a tub/shower faucet replacement...well it was a 3 handle initially that the customer wanted installed but upsold to a single handle application. Customer was very pleased with the change of heart to a more modern design. The old 3 handle style was going to be more of the same in washer replacements periodically.

Pulled in some more calls that both came from the internet, one being yahoo which isn't heard much of. A clogged lavatory/tub drain and work on a 2 handle tub/shower faucet that's getting little or no hot water during use.

Even though it was Easter Sunday, I basically have been working online all day with the exception of a good easter dinner and a trip to the graveyard to pay respects to a loved one.

The rest has been adding pictures, posting, getting things ready for some other business ventures so we don't have to work as hard to keep the phone ringing for the summer events.

Tomorrow is opening day for Cincinnati Reds baseball so one call in the morning, hope for the rest of the day off so I can watch it on tv while listening to it on the radio. Will still be working, just from a chair.

Took the day off from plumbing (Thursday) to get our equipment set up at the Cincy Flower Show (http://CincyFlowerShow.com/) up in Symmes Township Ohio.

We offer outdoor seating to many events across the Northern Kentucky/Greater Cincinnati Area. http://OutdoorEventSeating.com/

This flower show is a big one and garners national attention due to the size. Attendance is expected to be around 50,000-75,000 people over an 8 day period.

Did a toilet rebuild in fort wright kentucky, a toilet flange repair in piner kentucky, two opposite sides of the world. Not a profitable day (except for the plumbing supply house) and we hope to have a better day tomorrow.
A lot of work done on the internet in trying to get a lot done while time permits.

Hoping for warmer weather tomorrow to break free of the dreaded winter we just escaped from. Now, it's time for sleepy sleepy!  :bedtime2:

Many emails, phone calls, loose ends. First job was to scope out work to get a material list gathered, determine if a shower pan or a tub is going in a bathroom that is in a basement getting done.

Next call was a lavatory sink drain that was clogged, our use of the small drain machine (Spartan 81) took care of the issue. Cable came back black and with hair on the end. Also had to rework the trap underneath as the old one continued to leak after reinstallation. Weather is very nice outside, not too hot. That warm weather is on its way.

Getting ready to clean a backyard patio that has mold growing on it. It's holding moisture this way, long after a rain comes through. It's shaded mostly so that's the reason for why it's hard to keep clean. Some cleanup in the garage is warranted as well.

Beautiful day in northern kentucky today. Sunny and warm, can't ask for much more!  :s_good:
