I "almost" used these tonight, just to try them and see how well they were. So he showed me the plastic ones, don't even need to cut them off, the caps  were deep enough that you put them in and done.

I had to replace a toilet with a American Standard Cadet 4 tonight and I could NOT bring myself to use those bolts. The guys at the supply house praised them up and down and said they could barely cut them with a hacksaw...Plastic of any type under any strain is going to be pliable to begin with, over time get brittle and snap.

I ended up using brass bolts, but using the long caps that I really like and most likely start using them instead of cutting the bolts. It just seemed disheartening to make a move like that and use something in that fashion knowing that just a few short years can cause problems for the customers. I prefer to be in the category of using products that you can pitch in your backyard, wait 40 years and dig it up, polish and put back to use. Something that's becoming a dieing fade it seems in the profession, real world realities.
 

We've been using all brass closet bolts since we started plumbing 23 years ago and I see no reason or excuse to try anything else at this point, knowing how often plastic breaks.

Not saying I would use them either dunbar but they are tough. I think they are glass filled nylon. Its tough like a glock but I dont own a glock either. I dont think I would use them unless it was a test project.

Definitely correct on that statement. When I set those flanges, I always set the flange where it has to hook into the

furthest point where it cannot go any more, has the most to hold to. I also use the 8 screw type flanges, and preferably

not the movable slots but the set dimension ones.

     i do like the set dimention now that I'm into service.    for years I used the adjustable slots.         Oh the mistakes I made for a sevice guy back then.         I don't think 1/2 gas pipe has ever been put together with more torque than by me when I was an apprentice.

I also use the fixed slot when I install a flange and install it after the finished floor is installed then firmly secure with the appropriate anchor. Brass closet bolts with double nuts and washers. Grout or anchor cement on tile or a slab and adhesive caulk or silicone on other surfaces. As an apprentice i had a hard time with getting 3/8 chromed copper or soft 3/8 copper from leaking at the compression joint,but I was only 13/14 years old and couldn't concentrate except on one thing and it wasn't plumbing.
