A repeat customer of Dunbar Plumbing contacted us on monday to take care of issues relating to two bathrooms in the home.

First bathroom consisted of a leaking Moen tub and shower faucet that required at 1225B cartridge to resolve the issue. Along with that repair, the tub drain assembly was removed and a new chrome trim assembly was installed. Customer supplied us with a new lavatory faucet as well that replaced an aging Moen single handle faucet.

Second bathroom consisted of a shower faucet that was extremely loose inside the wall. What caused this issue was the stiffness of the Moen 1225B cartridge. Over time, the cartridge starts to lose the grease that makes the operation of the faucet work efficiently and with ease. Moen faucets are notorious for this issue and that is why the customer can sometimes break the handles as a result, pulling on the handle so hard.

We are set to return at a later date to replace the cartridge in this faucet to help with the situation. We injected silicone between the faucet's cover plate and the fiberglass wall of the shower to stabilize the faucet inside the wall. The hole that was drilled into the wall of this shower was extremely small, and there was no access to the back side of the faucet to properly support the faucet in the wall.

This repair will provide the needed support in the time to come as there is no need to remove the cover plate unless the faucet is going to be removed. On this Moen Faucet, the faucet incorporates an older model cartridge that is the 1225B cartridge. In order to operate the faucet, the handle is pulled out for volume, left to right for hot and cold or to mix.
